Arnold Peter Weiss is an academic hand surgeon with University Orthopedics in Providence, RI and at MUSC in Charleston, SC. He is currently an Examiner for American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He serves as Professor of Orthopedics at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital and at the Medical University of South Carolina. He has special research interests in total wrist arthroplasty and wrist reconstruction surgery. He has designed the current generation total wrist implant and has unmatched clinical experience performing total wrist arthroplasty (replacement) surgery. Dr. Weiss was awarded the Weiland Medal for Outstanding Lifetime Research in Hand Surgery by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2018. He served as past Editor of the Journal of Hand Surgery and has published over 215 peer-reviewed publications, given over 460 national and international presentations and authored 7 books. He is the current Managing Editor of the ASSH Textbook of Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery. Dr. Weiss holds current NIH RO-1 grant studying Thumb arthritis and holds multiple US patents for clinically available orthopedic implants. He founded or served on the Board of Directors for 6 medical device companies, three acquired by strategics and 2 national non-profits.
