I use my knowledge of the entire Symantec portfolio, my internal network to validate my designs, my external 3rd party delivery and technology partners, to propose and design revenue generating solutions. On the way I coach colleagues and other managers to expand their reach and help my organization to be efficient.
On Friday 9th of February I was part of the 11 new Principal Engineers elected at Sun Microsystems, joining a special club of ~ 100 employees. This election acknowledged the work in solution architect role in particular for the 16 messaging and communications migrations in 11 years around the planet, for having lead the release of the Sun Groupware Migration Toolkit (SGMT), the mentoring of around 40 Sun and partner specialists world wide. As well the work on legal interception, convergent platforms in triple play environments, complex presales for certain big armies in the world, etc.
With success in delivery, I was promoted to the global presales for the field for Sun Microsystems for the Communications portfolio. In this position, I created the Comms Practice which regroups 350 people doing sales, presales, marketing, delivery, support, architecture and partner enablement to remove road blockers in their sales deals and develop IP work like the Sun Groupware Migration Toolkit (SGMT) as sales accelerator. This international position lead me to 100s of presales activities with deals from all over the planet on all market segments and on a vast variety of topics. I act as well as the link between the field and the product marketing and the engineering divisions. With now 11 years in the communications arena as architect, delivery and presales, from contributor to manager, I indeed start to have certain visions in this area.
During 5 years at Sun, I acted as EMEA and then Global Senior Solution Architect for the Sun Professional Services and Delivery team. In this mission I am the main field global architect for the Sun Communication Products and conducted many customer projects from small to extremely large deals, on all the industry verticals (corporate, government, academic, army, but primarily telco and OEM business). This covered all the areas of the communication platform, from architecture (many architecture workshop delivered), to basic installations, audits, escalations but of course many advanced solutions: unified messaging, convergent messaging, hosting, SLA, migrations (did 16 migrations in 11 years) from various sources (open source, Critical Path, Microsoft Exchange, etc.) to the Sun Communications Platform, Legal interception projects, etc.
