About

Over the years, as both an undergraduate and graduate student, I have been involved in successful research into the physiology of the eye and was able to apply my skills understanding the role of purinergic receptors in ocular homeostasis. These studies also prepared me to carry out the type of translational and signaling studies which are proposed here. Since arriving in NYU School of Medicine I have developed an interest in bone physiology and pathology and have been able to successfully apply the skills I had learned before as well as developing new skills for the execution of studies into potential translational targeting of purinergic receptors in the treatment of diseases of bone. Since 2016 I work in Hospital Fundación Jiménez Díaz and I am leading my own research focus on bone and muscle comorbidities under inflammatory situations (HIV infection, rheumatoid arthritis, frailty...) and how to counteract them targeting purinergic signalling. I have successfully supervised four doctoral theses (defended on November 2019, July 2020, October 2022 and April 2026), been nowadays involved in the supervision of two new PhD students. I am reviewer for several journals, and I have served as Guess Editor for Frontiers in Inmunology (special issue Immunogenetics in times of COVID-19 pandemic´), been nowadays serving as a Guess editor for IJMS (Special Issue ´Purine Signaling as a Therapeutic Target in Human Disease´). Recently I have been enrolled as Associate Editor in Frontiers in Immunology (Autoimmune and Autoinflammatory Disorders). Across these years I’ve been involved in development of intellectual property on which I am listed as an inventor. Since 2022 I give Biochemical classes to Nursery students in Escuela de Engermeria Fundación Jiménez Diaz. At the end of 2023 I got the R3 certificate.
