I am characterized by an idiosyncratic and resilient nature, with a strong ability to work under pressure and a well-developed sense of leadership. I bring a solid combination of hard and soft skills essential for diverse roles in companies operating at the forefront of technology. I hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Minho, awarded with distinction (“Very Good”), and an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering with a final grade of 18/20, also from the University of Minho. I also hold specialized training in Geospatial Technologies and advanced skills in Mathematical Modeling, 3D Modeling, and Python Programming for Machine Learning. My doctoral thesis, “Decision Support System for the Operational Management of Wastewater Drainage Under Uncertain Conditions,” falls within the domain of Civil Engineering – Water Resources & Environment. I have authored several peer-reviewed articles in ISI-indexed journals, including “Improving Operational Management of Wastewater Systems: A Case Study” (Water Science & Technology, Vol. 80.1, pp. 173–183), which was selected as Editor’s Choice. My research was developed within the Vale do Ave Integrated Depollution System (SIDVA), a complex drainage network highly vulnerable to infiltration from groundwater and stormwater due to the extensive use of sewer pipelines in riverbeds. Key operational decisions involve selecting the most suitable wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for each flow, directly impacting pumped volumes, energy consumption, storm damage, and – in extreme cases – the occurrence of untreated discharges. The system also receives inflows from unregistered (illegal) connections. The work was supported by the deployment of monitoring equipment and modeling tools, with information technologies playing a critical role in optimizing operational efficiency. The result was a robust decision support system capable of forecasting treatment volumes under various weather scenarios, generating significant environmental and financial benefits.
I am a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Minho, Department of Civil Engineering (Water Resources & Environment), where I teach General Hydraulics, Hydroinformatics and Integrated Water Resources Management. My academic and professional background focuses on Civil and Environmental Engineering, with particular expertise in hydraulic systems, urban drainage, water resources management, intelligent monitoring solutions, AI and hydroinformatics. I am passionate about bridging research and practice, fostering innovation in the sustainable management of water systems.
💧 Responsible for the Undue Inflows Management Product (I&I - Infiltration&Inflow), applying innovative and AI-powered solutions for holistic system analysis and optimization in wastewater drainage networks. My work combines field expertise, data-driven decision-making, and cutting-edge technology to enhance system efficiency and sustainability. 🔹 Key Responsibilities & Expertise: ✔ Field Operations & Monitoring: Topographic surveys (GIS developer), sensor installation in wastewater networks and WWTPs, and data-driven analysis. ✔ Drainage System Management: Project management for new infrastructure development and rehabilitation of drainage systems and pumping stations (horizontal & vertical structures). ✔ Undue, Infiltration & Inflow Reduction Programs: System analysis, problem identification, monitoring, and tactical planning, ensuring effective long-term solutions. ✔ Performance & Strategic Planning: Development of short-, medium-, and long-term operational strategies for infrastructure maintenance and optimization. ✔ IT & AI Integration: Support in software development for water cycle management, including loss control, meter park analysis, drainage networks, and performance indicators (KPIs - development of software for evaluating performance indicators on an international scale, specifically focusing on KPIs in environmental, financial, HSE, water, and waste management. This solution has enabled organizations to effectively monitor and optimize their operations while ensuring adherence to global standards.). I thrive at the intersection of engineering, technology, and operational intelligence, driving data-powered transformation in wastewater management. 🚀 Let's connect! 💡
🚀 Sempre aberto a colaborações e novos desafios!
