Anton Stuebner is Partner and Director at Catharine Clark Gallery in San Francisco. As a freelance writer and curator, his areas of focus include queer representation, critical race, and visual cultures around bodies. His graduate research explored the intersection of bodily imaginaries and emergent video/imaging technologies during the early years of the HIV/AIDS crisis. More recent projects examine the aesthetics of haunting and the relationship between absence and vulnerable populations. In Spring 2020, he curated "No More I Love Yous," a group exhibition at Creative Growth Art Center, Oakland that explored the intersections of intimacy, desire, and disability. In Summer 2018, Anton curated "We Tell Ourselves Stories...In Order To Live," a group exhibition with attendant programming at Catharine Clark Gallery that featured work by Sophie Calle, Leonora Carrington, Lenka Clayton, Edgar Martins, Patrick Staff, Stephanie Syjuco and Katherine Vetne. In 2016, he also organized "Queer Babes," a solo exhibition of photographs by Jordan Reznick, as part of his Curator-in-Residence Fellowship at Romer Young Gallery, San Francisco. From 2018 - 2020, Anton served as Reviews and Contributing Editor for Art Practical, an online periodical based in San Francisco and published by California College of the Arts that covered emerging and established arts practices on the West Coast. Anton holds a Master of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies from California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Berkeley. He has received multiple awards and fellowships, including a 2016 Curator-in-Residence Fellowship at Romer Young Gallery and a 2015-2016 Project Index Fellow at the Kadist Art Foundation, among others. Anton currently serves on the Board of Directors of Headlands Center for the Arts, also serving as Chair of Advancement.
• In conjunction with director, oversee strategic planning and operations for contemporary art gallery with a permanent roster of 20+ artists • Produce and edit original written collateral for gallery communications, including press releases, promotional materials and catalogue essays • Directly coordinate with gallery artists on exhibition design, curatorial framework, communications and attendant programming • Prepare and review loan agreements for museum and institutional loans, in coordination with gallery’s registrar • Manage gallery staff and interns to ensure successful daily and long-term gallery operations • Represent gallery for off-site presentations and fairs, such as Paris Photo, and develop domestic and international collectors • Hired as Associate Director of Sales in April 2016; promoted to Associate Director in July 2017

With increased interest and excitement for San Francisco's burgeoning arts landscape, Daily Serving and Art Practical are uniquely positioned as a vital critical platforms for creatively-engaged writers and readers.
As a regular Contributing Writer to Art Practical, I publish features and reviews on art produced and exhibited across the Bay Area. In collaborating with editorial staff to produce content for monthly issues as well as special thematic editions, I work closely with managing editor to cover museum and gallery exhibitions with particular focus on queer programming I have published additional features and reviews published in journal Sightlines (San Francisco) and Metalsmith magazine (New York). As Web Sales Manager and Retail Associate, I am responsible for management of web retail sales through our online partner/platform Farfetch. My primary responsibilities as Web Sales Manager include populating store page/site with inventory, coordinating with shipping partners to expediently fulfill web orders, and overseeing point-of-sale follow-through with web clients to establish continuing relationships, As a Retail Associate, I assist the founding partners in the management and execution of daily operations of our Dogpatch location. In developing an extensive clientele through careful attention to detail and customer service, I also create promotional materials for social networking presence (Facebook, store website) with managing partners; conceptualize and install retail concepts and in-store displays; and coordinate set-up and de-install for in-house events in conjunction with the managing partners. My operational responsibilities include processing incoming merchandise; packaging, handling, and shipping orders for domestic and international clients as well as vendors; and measuring/marking garments for alterations in conjunction with off-site tailors.
As intern Gallery Assistant at Romer Young Gallery, I collaborated with the gallery directors in management of day-to-day operations as well as off-site event. As part of my operational responsibilities, I coordinated press content and ensure that press inquiries are answered and properly directed; maintained gallery mailing lists; and developed potential press contacts through direct outreach in coordination with gallery directors. Additionally, I assisted the gallery directors with sales during openings as well off-site exhibitions and fairs; installed/de-installed artwork during fairs (Pulse NY); and packaged/unpacked artworks for off-site exhibitions in conjunction with dedicated freight service.
As volunteer Development and Administrative Assistant, I collaborated with the Executive Director and Development Manager in the strategic planning and implementation of the organization’s overall development plan. As part of the Development team, I researched and documented new grant and funding opportunities at both foundational and corporate level; coordinated with the Development Manager to strategize year-round individual giving campaigns; and proofread and copyedited proposals and supporting materials for major grants (NEA, James Irvine Foundation). Additionally, I maintained individual and corporate donor records and input data and contact information for new gifts; handles written acknowledgements for gifts under $1000 and assisted the Executive Director with acknowledgements for major gifts; and collaborateed with the Development Manager in production/editing of content for quarterly newsletter.
