This course presents the hedge fund industry, its operating environment, its actors and strategies. Hedge fund managers are among the most admired and most decried people in the financial industry as their genius and madness led to the most incredible success stories, blow ups and frauds. This course requires sound financial and mathematical knowledge to capture the intricacies of very complex investment strategies that claim they can challenge market efficiency theory. Although knowledge of financial theory is important, pre-requisites are curiosity and common sense. This course is looking for a strong interaction between the teacher and students so that everyone can develop their own idea about this very special industry. Finally students will have the opportunity to question and debate on the headline news in order to understand their effects on both the real economy and the capital markets. This course consists of 12 sessions of 1.5 hours: - Introduction and History of Hedge Funds (2 sessions) - Regulatory and operational environment of a Hedge Fund (2 session) - Description and classification of various alternative investment strategies (4 sessions) - Descriptive Statistics and quantitative analysis of a Hedge Fund (1 session) - Case Study (1 session)
