Anthony Garrison-Engbrecht is a dedicated higher education administrator and educator committed to crafting transformative, holistic student experiences that meet students where they are and empower them to reach their fullest potential—currently serving as the Vice President of Student Affairs at the California Institute of the Arts. Previously, Anthony was Vice President of Student Life and Title IX Coordinator at Saint Mary's College of California. He has also served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor & Senior Advisor, and Chief of Staff at UC Merced. His journey in higher education administration also includes serving as the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the LEAD Center (Student Activities) at the UC Berkeley, as well as roles at Loyola Marymount University, where he served as the Director of Leadership Programs and founding Director of LGBT Student Services. Beyond his professional roles, Anthony has served as the Mentoring & Networking Chair of the Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators, represented Southern California for the American Education Research Association, and acted as the Southwest Regional Representative for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. Additionally, he has served on the boards of the Catholic Association for Lesbian & Gay Ministry, serving as treasurer, and the US–El Salvador Sister City Initiative. Currently, Anthony serves on the Board of Community Violence Solutions and maintains strong ties with his alma mater, Loyola Marymount University, by actively participating in the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Anthony is also involved in political advocacy, serving as a Victory Fund Campaign Board member, a national group of leaders actively helping elect more openly LGBTQ+ voices to public office. He is currently participating in the NAPSA Equity Leadership Academy, which brings together student affairs leaders to exchange insights on higher education equity. In July 2022, Governor Newsom appointed Anthony to the CA State Lottery Commission, ensuring the mission of providing supplemental funding for California's public schools and colleges is achieved. Anthony's educational background includes a BA in Sociology from Loyola University New Orleans, an MA in Education and Psychology from Pepperdine University, and an MA in Theology from Loyola Marymount University. He pursued graduate studies in Culture and Curriculum at Chapman University and Rural Education at Oregon State University, focusing his research on the impact of rurality and poverty on college access.

Ensuring integrity, security, fairness, and transparency in the operation and administration of the Lottery. The Commission consists of five members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.
The California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) stands as a distinguished private art university nestled in Santa Clarita, California. Its establishment in 1961 marked a pioneering moment in American education, as it became the first institution to grant degrees specially tailored for students pursuing both visual and performing arts education. CalArts offers a diverse array of degree programs, encompassing Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Fine Arts, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Musical Arts, across its six schools: Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music, and Theater. The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) holds the vital role of being the chief student affairs officer, charged with the responsibility of guiding and overseeing various facets of the distinctive and dynamic CalArts student experience. My role involves providing visionary leadership and strategic direction, ensuring the seamless operation of crucial programs and services that deeply impact our students' artistic journeys. These encompass areas such as Health & Wellness, the Basic Needs Center, the Patty Disney Center for Life and Work, Disability Services, Community Rights & Responsibilities, Food Services, Residential Life, Student Activities, International Student Activities, the Students’ Union (Student Government), and the Posse Arts Program. As a member of the CalArts president's cabinet, my unwavering dedication revolves around fervently advocating for the diverse interests and concerns of CalArts students. My leadership philosophy is firmly grounded in CalArts' core values of creativity, entrepreneurship, and forward-thinking. I am steadfast in tailoring the student experience to meet the distinct needs of our community, where artistic expression thrives, and where we nurture and celebrate each student's creative journey.
The Assistant Vice Chancellor & Senior Advisor provides advice, guidance, and recommendations on strategic planning, resource allocation, personnel, processes, and policy matters. The AVC & Senior Advisor works closely with the executive leadership to ensure continuous improvement in these areas and serves as a liaison with key university partners on high-level strategy and initiatives, including Planning & Budget, Human Resources, Risk Services, Audit & Compliance, Procurement, Information Technology, External Relations, and Communication. As the first point of contact for inquiries and initiatives related to student affairs, the AVC & Senior Advisor is responsible for assessing these requests and determining the appropriate course of action, delegating to the appropriate individual for resolution. In addition to providing strategic support, the AVC & Senior Advisor coordinates the budget and human resource activities of over 22 distinct units with more than 350 full-time employees and over 2000 part-time, contract, and student staff, and a combined operating budget of over $100MM. The AVC & Senior Advisor also serves as a delegated authority on a wide range of matters, including budget, finance, personnel, and general business operations, and represents the university leadership on institutional committees.

The Vice President is responsible for the leadership and implementation of College-wide student services, programs, and initiatives. By creating and communicating a clear vision for Student Life, the Vice President leads and inspires Student Life staff which includes direct and indirect oversight for the following units: Campus Housing, Community Life, Residential Experience, Student Involvement and Leadership, Campus Recreation, Intercultural Center, New Student and Family Programs, Health and Wellness Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Campus Assault Response and Education, and the Center for Women and Gender Equity.
