As Principal Engineer for the HW Group, I initiate the architecture for all new designs by reviewing the needs of the Systems and SW groups. I provide the architecture and help the HW group designers to finalize different portions of the design. In order to accomplish this I review all of the parts that are necessary. The designs have to be testable. I make sure that all signals can be tested down to at least two ICs. This helps the production group to build and test the products in a timely manner. My knowledge of programmable devices allows me to save board space by allotting functions to the PLD or FPGA. These are complex parts and DO-254 has to be considered when designing. In all I have to approve all different approaches to all HW technical activities and make sure the HW group is mentored to the most recent advances in technology.
