Located in Northern California. I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Sociology. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve developed a deep commitment to advocating for those who are underserved or lack access to essential resources. My passion for social justice and community empowerment has driven me to explore a variety of projects and roles that allow me to contribute to positive social change. I have plans to apply to law school in the coming years. I am interested in connecting with others who share a passion for advocacy and driving social change. If you're on a similar path or have advice to share, I’d love to connect!
Assisted Dr. Winder with his ongoing projects (1) around race, sexuality, and identity formation among queer Black people and practitioners of African traditional religions; and (2) about how college-bound high school students discuss paying for college with their families. Able to synthesize complex information and present it efficiently, aiding in disseminating research findings and facilitating productive discussions. Additionally, I am working on helping to compose profiles for the project website and coding interview data from the project.
Presented aid in writing with partnered law firms, sitting in on one-to-one interviews with clientele. This project aimed to serve those from underrepresented communities and minorities. Drafted letters to show the client's conduct reflecting rehabilitation from past accumulated charges. Obtained legal writing skills, technological knowledge, and strong relationships with clientele through one-to-ones.
Gained a legal education through observing consultations on various cases and accompanying pro-bono attorney Mr. Doherty to trial. This clinic aimed to provide free legal services to all members of the community regardless of economic status. Our goal was to clear the criminal records of community members to obtain more access to employment, education, and housing.
Internship I completed summer of 2022, was offered a position for summer of 2023. The task included sitting in 3+ courtrooms: cases dealt with divorce, child support, and custody. Gained a comprehensive idea of a courtroom setting and experience in cases revolving around family issues. Reviewed 30+ documents and files before handing of to court's family facilitator and also helped customers with filling out such documents involving assests, income, and family life expectations.
