Perform physical exams. Order and review preoperative tests (lab work, EKG, echocardiogram , chest X-rays, urinalysis and cultures). Provide preoperative medication instructions and guidance regarding NPO guidelines. Collaborate with patients' specialists including cardiologists, oncologists, pulmonologists, etc. to facilitate optimization prior to surgery. Identify and communicate special anesthesia needs to ACCM providers.

Communicate changes in patient status to anesthesiologists and surgeons. Respiratory management of patients with either artificial or natural airways. Monitor arterial lines, labs, EKGs, drain output, and new surgical sites. Administer analgesics, sedatives, reversal agents, blood products, vasopressors, IV fluids, and other relevant medications.
