At Data Services, our team of seven employees cleans and joins data, bringing together agency records of the Board of Elections, Comptroller's Office, Department of Motor Vehicles, Education Department, NYS Information and Technology Services, NYS GIS Clearinghouse, NYS Tax Department and various Municipal Assessor's offices to provide accurate and timely information for targeted communications for members of the New York State Assembly -- including all forms of electronic and print communications. We maintain the IOI codes -- Issue, Occupation and Interest codes -- on over 12.5 million New Yorkers and files on 62 counties. We take in data in all forms, transform it, merge it, query it using a variety of technologies both old and new on desktops and main frames, working closely with the programming staff at OADP (Office of Automation and Data Processing). We use tools like Linux, bash scripts, awk, sed, and R Statistical Language to process data and store it in IBM db2 databases and query it using SQL and our internal database system. Based on client requests, the lists we generate get sent to clients, digital and print departments for their use in communications.
