• Invented a search engine for location analysis called NeighborhoodScout (www.NeighborhoodScout.com), which uses a patented algorithm I created along with one of the largest databases of neighborhood characteristics ever assembled to reveal, rank, and map neighborhoods that meet any user’s search criteria. • Developed all data models and location information. • Led Seed, Series A, and Series B funding rounds. • NeighborhoodScout has served more than 100 Million users since 2002, including consumers selecting neighborhoods to buy a home, real estate investors, lenders, retailers, insurance underwriters, risk assessors, real estate brokers, public officials, marketing professionals, and security professionals. • Due to NeighborhoodScout’s revolutionary approach, my expertise has been in demand by national media. I have been interviewed by or provided research for the New York Times, CBS News, the Wall Street Journal, CNN, Business Week, Forbes, Money Magazine, the Christian Science Monitor, MarketWatch, the Chicago Tribune, USA Today, Huffington Post, and dozens of other national and local media. • Led development of WaterRisk, the first and only predictor of plumbing and appliance failure related insurance claims and losses • Led development of FireRisk, the only predictor of fire claim frequency. • Led development of HailRisk, the only data driven solution with the goal of predicting hail claims and losses specifically, rather than focusing only on predicting hail hazard events • Invented crime risk models that are now the most trusted crime risk product with seamless U.S. coverage available today.
I was in charge of the daily operation and execution of the Institute’s project on risk and vulnerability of societies to global environmental change, including intensifying coastal storms and projected sea-level rise. A joint venture with the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, Clark University, Stanford University, the Stockholm Environment Institute, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
• Worked on environment and development issues in three areas: Integrating biofuels crop management with environmental goals; land use planning and decision-making on federally managed lands to integrate resource use and environmental conservation; and developing new approaches to communicate changing environmental conditions to public and corporate decision-makers with an interdisciplinary team of social scientists and biologists. • Activities and leadership: Co-Founder, Sustainable Communities Research Program; Representative, Oak Ridge National Laboratory to the Southern Appalachian Integrated Assessment.
