Andrew is a senior insurance executive with over 40 years of London Market experience. Andrew’s formative years comprised of underwriting and claims roles within, London Market brokers, Lloyd’s syndicates, and Lloyd’s consortia. Building on his breadth of market experience, Andrew founded Contessa in 2003, a pioneering London Market MGA which underwrote UK & Irish domiciled commercial risks from Lloyd’s of London, with a Northern Irish satellite office. In addition to providing underwriting expertise, Contessa also brought comprehensive services to brokers and clients, including enhanced risk management, claims handling solutions and credit control functions. As Managing Director, Andrew successfully led significant growth in the portfolio, increasing the overall GWP fivefold with continued profitable premium revenues. As a result of this success, Contessa become a key trusted partner in the UK as well as renowned for their Irish underwriting expertise, leading the market in areas such as liquidation and insolvency clients and leisure risks. After fifteen successful years of trading, Andrew reached a strategic decision to sell the business to the principal capacity provider, Axis Capital. In September 2020 Andrew was brought into Builders Direct UK as Head of Underwriting, to manage and develop the fledgling commercial UK portfolio and launch their Irish offering. Andrew left the company in December 2021 to start a long-planned sabbatical from the market. In July 2024, Andrew was pleased to re-join the London Market with an exciting opportunity with MX Underwriting to head up their London Property team. In this role Andrew is involved managing a portfolio of both UK and Irish business. • Oversaw the development and growth of the new UK and Irish portfolio. • Instigated and embedded new managerial processes and systems into the business. • Introduced new producers and stimulated existing business relationships from previous market contacts. • Led and Managed the Builders UK Underwriting team.
• Founded and ran one of the London Market’s first MGA’s. • Through being Managing Director at Contessa became one of the leading insurers in the Irish P&C market. • Increased the initial portfolio of £5m to £25m GWP. • Led and managed the Contessa underwriting, operations, and claims team.
• Member of the management team that created three consortium facilities. • Underwrote Property, Contingency and Personal Lines risks, territorial scope being Worldwide ex, USA/Canada. • Held responsibilities for managing the portfolio.
