Executive Dean of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment at Nottingham Trent University

Nottinghamshire, England, United Kingdom

About

I am currently the Executive Dean of the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment at NTU. This is one of the largest and most successful Schools in the UK, comprising approximately 4000 students. Prior to this appointment, I held other senior leadership roles, including Dean, Deputy Dean (Teaching and Learning) and Associate Dean. I started my career as a surveyor working in government and private practice before moving to an academic career in the late 1990s. I believe that working with industry to achieve dialogue with the academy is fundamental to successful outcomes for our students. I have supervised many PhD students and published on a range of subjects, particularly research methods and professional ethics, including social value. As a Chartered Surveyor (FRICS), I have led debates on professional standards and assessment both within the UK profession and globally. One of my passions is philosophy, not merely as an academic subject but as a way of life. This has influenced my work in professional ethics and also guided my leadership focus and approach to people and teams.
