I am a Pharmaceutical Scientist with over 20 years of experience, responsible for leading materials science aspects of projects to select solid forms with optimum physicochemical properties for inclusion in various dosage forms. This was achieved by designing and executing appropriate experimental workflows including polymorph, hydrate and salt screens, both independently and by directing activities of colleagues and external partners, whilst utilizing both in-silico tools and experimental methodologies such as x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, vapour sorption, microscopy and spectroscopic methods. I have worked in multi-disciplinary teams across multiple stages of development from drug discovery through to registration and have authored relevant sections in regulatory submissions including IND, IMPD and NDAs and responded to queries from regulatory bodies. I have also partnered with patent attorneys to file applications on novel solid forms of pharmaceutical materials. I authored a book chapter, entitled “Isothermal Calorimetric Analysis” in “Solid State Characterization of Pharmaceuticals” (Wiley 2011). Additionally I am an experienced risk assessor and led my department’s risk assessment team ensuring all instruments and tasks were appropriately assessed. I am also a keen coder and I have developed several tools using Python in Jupyter notebooks for use in designing experiments and analyzing data.
