About

"Are you the Andrew Beckett from the Cadence Community Forums?" Engineering works best when we all share knowledge and good practice rather than keeping it to ourselves. You don't need to know everything to be a great team player - trusting in the skills and strengths of our colleagues and giving opportunities to shine means that we all do a better job. Over 35 years of IC design, software development, and electronic design automation experience over a broad range of technologies and industry sectors has allowed me to see that there is huge benefit in drawing parallels between different disciplines. A broad overview of the challenges of design and the flows that enable them to be overcome helps me to be able to architect approaches that can enable a team to efficiently design, verify and implement great IC designs, and to get the best out of electronic design tools. I love learning new tools, new (programming) languages, new technologies and see that constantly striving for improvement and self-development really helps to better support customers. Automation is powerful - rather than accepting a tedious, manual, repetitive task, I'd sooner spend the time finding a way to automate it. I automate because I'm lazy - next time it will be quicker and I can spend that valuable time on something more interesting! It's also more likely to eliminate those silly mistakes that we all make when doing something repetitive. I'm a member of both the IET and IEEE, and value the importance of being a professional engineer. As somebody who has been involved in school governance since 2009, I am passionate about helping to shape excellence in our school system in my local area. I have the privilege to work with a great team of Trustees and School and Trust leaders to build an excellent collaborative family of schools in the Wokingham area. In my spare time, family is very important to me, but I also am a keen bread baker and love cycling (to offset the baking!). If you would like to connect, please do send me a personalised connection request - note that I mostly accept connections from those I have a personal relationship with, but there are always exceptions!
