This included creation and rollout of Cloud Native Development Patterns, Standards and Policies that would enable and empower Engineering teams
Development of end to end Solution Architectures for IT projects and ensuring they meet the business requirements in line with Enterprise Architecture principles and policies. Review and present outline designs at the Architecture review board (ARB) Defining and updating the Architectural principles and polices to reflect trends in IT and new technologies which can be utilised Work with Lead Enterprise Architects to produce the strategic model for IT and define the future system landscape Spend 25% of my time on strategic work with Enterprise and Solution Architects and 75% of my time on day to day project work with Project managers and Business Stakeholders I have promoted the use of Service orientated Architecture (SOA) in Dixons and have helped define the standards for Java web services and data schemas, primarily SOAP and XML. At Dixons I have had an important role in the SAP implementation program taking place across the organisation. I have been involved in the deployment of SAP Process Integrator (PI) as the key tool for SOA based Integration in the organisation. I have created a set of reusable patterns in SAP PI which can be copied and deployed for most future SAP PI requirements with minimal custom configuration. I have also attended 5 days of formal training in SAP PI. For data Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) requirements I have gained further experience in designing, developing and deploying SSIS packages for projects. I also have experience in designing and developing interfaces in Business objects Data Integrator. For both ETL tools, I have set coding standards, created a repository of interface patterns and put a support and monitoring framework in place.
Following early promotion from the Tesco IT Graduate scheme I worked in the Information services Engagement team. Information services are responsible for delivering business as usual Integration between Tesco IT systems and third party systems when required using technology such as MS BizTalk, Ab initio or Sysrepublic RTI. They also manage the Oracle Operational Data Store (ODS) and the Real Time Sales (RTS) solution which brings transactional data centrally from all the till systems across the estate and feeds this downstream to central systems which require it. I primarily worked on the business as usual Integration projects although I also had working knowledge of the ODS and RTS. I was responsible for producing the low level technical designs for solutions, ensuring that my designs reflected the Solution Architecture or Business Requirements Document and complied with the Enterprise Architecture, roadmaps, principles, policies and standards. I guided and supported the off-shore development and testing team to ensure the deliverables complied with the technical designs and the solutions architecture. I assisted with the creation of solution architectures as was recognised as a key source of knowledge on the Integration layer and helped ensure that Information services principles and policies were adhered to. I worked with the Information services domain Enterprise Architect to help define the principles and policies which ensured that we built supportable interfaces and kept business logic out of the Integration layer. I usually worked on the Integration components for three or more projects simultaneously. I worked with the project and programme managers to agree timescales for delivery and provided estimates of the efforts required by Information services when requested. I delivered Integration for many projects with a strong record of delivering work of a high quality and to the agreed timescales.
I joined Tesco on the IT Graduate program in the Information services Engagement team. I quickly obtained the technical knowledge to create Integration architectures and develop interfaces for Tesco through formal training courses and self directed research. I was also trained in soft skills such as presenting, effective influencing, setting objectives and creating a personal development plan and effective meeting management.
