I am an internationally trained cell and molecular biologist with expertise in transporter biology and epithelial ion transport. My research focuses on inflammatory diseases, including cystic fibrosis, COPD, and chronic pancreatitis. I have experience in CFTR biology, personalized epithelial disease models, and stem cell–based regenerative approaches. I have been involved in research in the field of CFTR biology, with a focus on cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. My work involves examining the effects of acute exposure to smoking on CFTR ion channel activity in airway epithelial cells. Additionally, I have developed conditionally reprogrammed human bronchial and nasal epithelial cultures from nasal scrapings to optimize personalized drug therapy for rare CF mutations and to advance preclinical drug development.
This was a transitional role between obtaining my PhD degree and beginning my postdoctoral position at McGill University. I participated in a project focused on uncovering the impact of smoking on the activity of CFTR channels and bicarbonate transporters in pancreatic ductal epithelial cells. I was also responsible for supervising and providing scientific and technical training to Bachelor's and Master's students.
I have been involved in projects elucidating the molecular pathology of hereditary pancreatitis. My main project aimed to characterize the functional properties of thirteen rare cationic trypsinogen (PRSS1) mutations identified in patients with pancreatitis in order to better understand the underlying disease mechanisms. As part of a joint PhD fellowship between the University of Szeged and Boston University, a portion of this research was carried out at Boston University.
I studied how various proteases and their inhibitors in the pancreas contribute to the pathogenesis of pancreatitis.
