My post-doctoral work lies at the interface of Brain Tumour and Epilepsy research; I am applying my previous research-experience in neuro-electrophysiology in a novel approach to neuro-oncology, with the aim to better understand the pathogenesis of Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). The project has research ethics committee approval (BRAIN UK) and is funded by an Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) grant. To our knowledge, the work is the first of its kind exploring relationships between epileptogenesis and gliomagenesis in concurrent analyses of human tissue samples and whole-brain MR-imaging, with a view to identify not only therapeutic targets, but novel prognostic indices in diagnostic neuropathology processing and routinely used non-invasive neuro-imaging.

My previous research interest (PhD awarded in 2012) has been in identifying and characterising electrophysiological markers of motor and cognitive functioning in cortico-subcortical pathways. I relish the opportunity created by recent novel applications of therapeutic stimulation (in pain, psychiatric disease, epilepsy and spinal cord injury) to make direct high temporal resolution recordings from previously uncharted CNS territories. I look to use my skill portfolio to characterise both resting-state and task-specific neuronal activities at new anatomical targets, thereby advancing our understanding of their roles in health and disease (discovery science) and guiding deep brain stimulation (DBS) strategies (translational research). My background in EEG/EMG, basic MEG and the advanced computational and statistical analysis of LFP recordings may also provide a useful contribution to any group interested in the multi-modal analysis of brain function.
