Database Migration (MongoDB to PostgreSQL) for Appsmith Worked on the complex migration of Appsmith’s database from MongoDB to PostgreSQL, significantly improving operational efficiency by reducing new customer onboarding time from 3-6 months to just 1 week. This migration also addressed crucial compliance issues, ensuring smoother operations. Key challenges and solutions: Schema and Data Type Compatibility: Resolved inconsistencies between MongoDB’s dynamic schema and PostgreSQL’s relational schema, ensuring data integrity and compatibility throughout the migration process. Migration for Self-Hosted Users: Developed a strategy to handle the migration of self-hosted users, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal disruption to their workflows. Rollout Plan & Support Timeline: Defined a clear rollout plan for customers and developers, determining until when the old MongoDB version would be supported and outlining the steps for a gradual phase-out. Onboarding Developers: Created comprehensive onboarding processes to get developers actively working on the PostgreSQL branch, facilitating smoother transitions in development workflows. Client Communication Service - Stabilized the platform and hence Issues reported by clients reduced drastically. Analyzed data in AWS RDS instance to improve the performance and fixed the out of memory exceptions issue as well. Fixed the issues on environment specific deployments, logging and support options for internal teams. Application Monitoring and Production Support - Implemented AppDynamics to Application and added alerting system which notifies the team when there is any issue with the infrastructure and it helped in reducing the code call by 10%.
