During my time at WEX Photo Video (formerly known as Calumet), I have learnt a lot about photography equipment and lighting. The position required the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure and time constraints, and I constantly had to problem-solve and think on my feet. Part of my tasks included: • Dealing with customer enquiries courteously over telephone, email and face-to-face; • Advising customers on the best equipment to suit their needs; • Accurately booking the gear from our branch, request transfers from London or sourcing it externally by sub-hiring from other companies to fulfil the contracts; • Arranging courier deliveries and collections to and from the customer; • Dealing with deliveries of sub-hired rental equipment; • Testing and cleaning equipment to ensure it's in full working order and up to standards; • Preparing the rental contracts going out and checking the equipment upon return; • Setting up new accounts and conducting fraud checks; • Processing payments, handling deposits and customers’ data in compliance with GDPR. Additionally, I have assisted with stock takes and supported workshops on site.
My role at Jessops covered a broad range of tasks. I mainly worked in the photo lab, but have also done overtime on the sales floor. Photo lab: This was a very diverse role, in which I had to deal with customers, production and studio work. Examples of tasks included: • Assisting customers on kiosks and advising on services; • Putting transactions through the till and accepting deliveries; • Dealing with the production of photos in the wet lab, large format prints, wall art (canvases & box prints) and assembling photo gifts (keyrings, fridge magnets, coasters, mouse pads etc); • Selling and developing films; • Doing paper changes in the dark; • Taking and printing passport and document photos to specific requirements; • Working as a photographer in the studio producing headshots, family portraits and product photography to suit various briefs; • Photo editing and photo restoration. Sales: • Advising customers on photography products from a multitude of brands, as well as photography accessories, telescopes and video cameras; • Cross-selling, promoting Jessops training courses and Jessops Care Plan; • Carrying out sensor cleaning for customers.
I was one of the few people selected to act as a Digital Reporter for the Cornerhouse for the period of a year, attending various training workshops (such as Social Media for Businesses, Blogging, Video Recording and Editing, Sound Recording and Photography) and working on photographic tasks for them and The Library Theatre. Some of the work I've produced was published in The Guardian Guide and included in The Seagull's programme.
