  • Library Page at Toronto Public Library
    Nov 2024 - Present · 1 yr 8 mos

Pages are responsible for returning library materials to their correct location so they can be retrieved quickly by customers and library staff. At the Reference Library, which is a six-storey building with a large collection outside of the public shelves, a lot of our work also involves relocating individual materials within the library, as well as working together to complete large projects to move and redistribute collections. In addition to handling library materials, pages fill a customer support role, directing customers within the library as well as creating library cards and other support tasks.

  • Editor and Book Production Consultant at Amy R Brown Editing
    Jan 2010 - Sep 2025 · 15 yrs 9 mos

I copyedited academic and technical writing on science, society, and technology, including psychology, law, and machine learning. My broad general knowledge means I can tackle a wide variety of topics with confidence, and my empathy helps me understand the needs of the author as well as their audience. I have project edited several self-published books, managing everything from editing, designing and typesetting to engaging subcontractors like indexers, proofreaders, and website designers. I have also: • Copyedited and proofread academic papers, brochures, books, and other materials, including papers on computer science, psychology, and physics as well as the University of Toronto’s Indigenous Law Journal • Created and adhered to client-specific stylesheets and followed MLA, AP, Chicago, and other style guides to maintain high standards and enhance the readability and coherence of documents • Designed book interiors and exteriors for self-publication of several books; project managed the publication process including sourcing indexers, working with designers, and submitting files to the publisher • Managed all aspects of the business including invoicing, client relations, and marketing, which led me to be the go-to copyeditor for several regular clients

  • Certified Professional Coach at Amy Rhoda Brown
    Oct 2018 - Mar 2025 · 6 yrs 6 mos

As an ICF-certified coach I work with people who are learning who they are and embracing themselves. Together, we uncover their desires for themself, and discover their path forward. I write a monthly newsletter in which I explain concepts in psychology and personal development, along with personal updates, book recommendations and more. I host and facilitate a weekly online coworking and community gathering, bringing together like-minded people working towards their personal and collective goals to share ideas and support. My work is informed by an understanding of the systems we live in: communities, economies, ecologies, democracies, systems of oppression and systems of fortification. Individual change is not always the answer: sometimes you need a policy shift, not a mindset shift.

I also helped Software Carpentry transition to being part of the Mozilla Science Lab project. • Coordinated technology workshops for graduate and post-graduate researchers by connecting and liaising with workshop hosts and instructors • Learned about instructional design for adult learners through the organization’s Train the Trainers program, • Tools: GitHub, Eventbrite
