Growing up in a coastal town in southern California, I knew at age 12 that I would join the Navy. Even then, I was drawn to adventure and the romance of the sea. I learned to sail while attending college on a Navy scholarship, and bought and lived on my own sailboat soon after becoming a Naval Officer. The Navy sent me to Puerto Rico where I had my first thrilling offshore sailing experiences cruising through the Bahamas and Caribbean. I sailed to Newport, RI to continue the adventure. While attending the Naval War College, I discovered my second passion--reading the "Great Books" of classic authors like Homer, Aristotle, and Thucydides. I have continued to pursue classical education ever since for its life-affirming vision of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. This study has taught me how to strive for excellence and encounter the world with openness and wonder. I had many unforgettable experiences in the Navy, including deploying overseas on an aircraft carrier, working at the Pentagon, and serving with the U.S. Navy SEALs. They taught me my most important life lesson: how to overcome adversity with courage, endurance, and prudent planning and execution. I rely on these skills today while operating a drain business with my husband, which is a vital service for the health of our community. Since leaving the Navy, I've realized that the biggest gift of my career wasn't the travel or adventure. It was working with amazing teammates and talented leaders. I thrive on these personal encounters because of the power of our connections to ignite synergy and collaboration. I am most excited about the opportunity to connect with purpose-driven leaders as I launch the next voyage of my life. Gallup Strengths: Connectedness | Strategic | Intellection | Context | Learner
