For the duration of the placement I worked within the School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Science at Reading University. The projects I worked on included elements of both physical and human geography. The tasks included are listed below: • Physical Project 1: sample preparation, use of specialist software (Tilia), laboratory work (microscopes and data analysis), presentation of data, working independently, planning whole project • Physical Project 2: collecting data, sample preparation, analysing data, use of specialist software (GIS), mapping of data, working independently, planning whole project, organising field dates • Human Project 1: Communicating with Schools and companies, running activities, teamwork, collecting and coding data, producing a research paper for publication • Human Project 2: data collection (online), creating a blog, use of excel, use of social media sites
Equity was a project which involved teaching young people still in education how to become financially independent. The aim was to build on the financial education students were receiving through their curriculum. Workshops were to be taught by people experiencing financial difficulty to increase their financial stability and improve their skills set. I worked in a team of 6 conducting market research in order to make the project successful. It involved working with academic and business leaders.
