I think I’ll always be a software developer at heart, no matter what my title reads, and no matter what my job entails. I enjoy making a case for TDD among skeptics, and I equally enjoy watching the birth of great agile teams. If it’s not evident yet, I’m a strong proponent of the agile mindset, and I believe agility is both a more sensible and a more humane way of developing software. I see software development, at the core, as a journey of discovery and a form of expression. And I think writing a good piece of software should not be too different from writing a good essay or article. The tools are not there yet, but this is what we should be aiming at. Currently, I head the technology capacity at VirginGates; a startup with ambitious plans to transform Hospitality and Services industry via high-tech cloud-native solutions. Recently I led software development in a multitude of diverse and global businesses, including telecom, software engineering tools, banking, and others. During those years, I kickstarted greenfield projects , lifted systems to the Cloud, and maintained and re-engineered legacy systems alike. I also managed to spend a few years coaching and consulting software teams. During this period, I enjoyed the diverse challenges and environments I had to face, and I discovered that guiding and coaching teams and individuals in building better software can be as satisfying as building them first hand! In a more distant past, I held the title of Head of Development for over 6 years in a software development firm, where I led the development of many generations of an ERP solution and related products. I came to this position after a long sequence of promotions from a software developer all the way to senior management around 2006. Whenever I can, I lecture and talk on topics ranging from software architecture and design, to lean and agile mind-set, and test-driven development.

Achievements: -------------------- • Improved software development productivity by 40% during the first year of joining a former employer. • Led the delivery of two mobile payment solutions involving international card schemes, mobile operators, and major local banks while migrating millions of customers to the new platforms. • Led the renovation of a backend payment system serving several million customers, dramatically reducing release frequency without sacrificing availability. • Created and led the implementation of a modern reference architecture for a new generation of payment middleware services.
