- Conducted General Outpatient Department (OPD) services and managed common ailments within the community. - Conducted daily ward rounds. - Undertook bi-weekly 24x7 emergency duties to attend to casualties and medical and surgical emergencies. - Held bi-weekly OPDs in remote sub-centers to provide primary care to the community and conduct free health check-up camps. - Volunteered for monthly visits to Providence Old Age Home, Cana Benaulim, Goa, to provide geriatric treatment and offer advice on yoga and maintaining good health. During my rotations, I underwent a structured 12-week program in Internal Medicine and Allied branches, including Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Pulmonary Medicine, and Geriatric Medicine. Another 12 weeks were dedicated to General Surgery and Allied Branches, covering Trauma and Emergency Department, Orthopedics, ENT, and Ophthalmology. Obstetrics and Gynaecology, along with Miscellaneous areas such as Anesthesia, Radiology, Forensic Medicine, and Dermatology, constituted a further 12-week block. The remaining 12 weeks were allocated to Preventive and Social Medicine. During these rotations, I was actively involved in various clinical responsibilities: - Monitoring vitals such as Pulse, BP, Saturation, and CBG, alongside assessing all ward patients. - Participating in ward rounds and contributing to the formulation of management plans for common ailments. - Conducting follow-up consultations for patients in the outpatient department under the guidance of Consultants. - Facilitating communication and coordination between resident doctors and nurses to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare. - Assisting Consultants and Senior Residents in major surgeries. - Performing minor procedures under supervision, including Male and Female catheterization, IV Cannulation, Venous blood sample collection, Arterial Blood Gas analysis, ECG interpretation, Blood Transfusion oversight, Dialysis monitoring, Lumbar Puncture, Ascitic Tap, Bone Marrow Aspiration and Trephine Biopsy, Normal Delivery, Episiotomy, and various minor surgical procedures such as Lipoma enucleation, excision of sebaceous cysts, and fibroadenoma enucleation.
During my tenure as the Community Officer of the National Working Group, I had the privilege of spearheading various impactful initiatives aimed at addressing pressing social issues and fostering community development. These included: Project Chalaang: Collaborating with NGO Naz, we worked on a child nutrition awareness program targeting mothers and children, aiming to ensure healthier futures for the younger generation. Project Saamya: This initiative focused on enhancing transgender health awareness, striving for inclusivity and equity in healthcare access. Project Roots: We trained villagers in producing organic manure from kitchen scraps, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and environmental stewardship. Project Ahaar Abhiyan: A community-wide program centered around improving antenatal care and promoting healthy child-rearing practices, aiming for holistic community well-being. Through these initiatives and team building activities, we aimed to make tangible, positive impacts in the lives of individuals and communities, fostering a brighter, healthier future for all.
