India | EU Anusha’s practice involves counselling clients in the private and public sectors particularly on international law as well as art and cultural heritage matters. She does not advise or represent clients in relation to Maltese law. After completing the ICJ Fellowship (2023-2024), during which she worked on nine interstate disputes and one advisory opinion, she worked on the disputes team at international law firm Arthur Cox in Dublin, and was based there as a diplomatic spouse. Between 2021-2023, Anusha represented clients in international arbitrations under major institutional rules and advised on a full range of public international law issues at Aarna Law, Bangalore. Over two years, these included investment law matters as well as repatriation of antiquities and art disputes. She was appointed Tribunal Secretary in an expedited arbitration under the SIAC Rules. Anusha was based in New York between 2016-2018 and again between 2020-2021, where she represented governments in significant and complex diplomatic negotiations at the UN Headquarters, including the second, third and sixth Committees of the GA, the UNSC and UNCITRAL Working Group III negotiations on reforms to Investor-State Dispute Settlement. She has advised the Government of India as well as Foreign Ministries of States in Africa and the GCC on matters concerning sovereign disputes, including before the ICJ. In 2017, Anusha was the youngest member of India's official delegation to the 72nd UNGA. As a government lawyer for three States over four years, she advised on diverse international law questions including the interpretation of obligations under Bilateral Investment Treaties, immunities of State officials under international law including the UN-US HQ Agreement, funding of international tribunals, and proposing law reforms concerning freedom of expression. In 2019, Anusha served in the Chambers of the Presiding Judge of the UN-IRMCT in Tanzania, where she assisted in drafting judicial decisions in landmark cases on the Rwandan genocide. She also acts as jury member for international film festivals, and is formally trained in Carnatic singing, Bharatanatyam (Indian classical) and Contemporary dance.
