About

My other name : T.A. Thanaraj 1. I have a PhD in Computational Biology and possess several years of research & development experience in Health Informatics analysis and Computational Genetics and Genome informatics. Some of the research programmes are: Analysis of nation-wide health data on diabetes and hypertension; Genomics and Genetics of diabetes and hypertension; Population Genetics; RNA structure/function as in Protein translation process; Protein structural analysis as in co-translational protein folding; Gene characterization; Transcriptome data analysis as in pre-mRNA processing (leading to genome annotation for alternative splicing/polyadenylation events and transcript isoforms); Experimental biochemistry of ribosomal RNA molecules as in protein translation process; Computational pipelines and integrated databases on genome annotation. I have also worked on other aspects such as Computerization of Mathematical Logic and programming in crystallography. 2. During my period (1996 -2005) at European Bioinformatics Institute, UK, I was one of the Europe-wide Principal Investigators in two European Consortiums (one on Alternative Splicing and the other on Alternate Transcriptome Diversity). 3. My stay at European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Germany, was supported by Fellowship from the prestigious Human Frontier Science Programme. 4. During my tenure at CRS4-Bioinformatics, Sardinia, I led a group on Computational Biology of Disease Processes. 5. I have many publications to my credit with an average 5Yr impact factor of around 6.6; In more than 80 of these publications, I am either corresponding author or first author. I have organized & conducted workshops and symposiums in the field of Genome Informatics and Computational Biology. I could obtain funding from different resources such as Human Frontier Science Program, European Commission, and Department of Biotechnology, India. I act as referees for a number of journals in Life Sciences and research grant agencies. Specialties: Project management in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology
