As president of the United States Program, I lead the foundation’s efforts to help all students graduate from high school, get to and through college, and get a good job. Originally joining the foundation in 2000 as the chief financial officer, I felt a deep connection to the U.S. Program work—which spans early learning, K-12, postsecondary, and education pathways into the workforce, as well as economic mobility and opportunity—and began serving as president in 2006. I believe that education provides a bridge to opportunity unlike any other in America, and am committed to ensuring all young people have the education and opportunity they deserve. This includes a deep focus on equity in education and using technology and data to secure better, more equitable outcomes for students. My professional background is in consulting, public accounting, consumer packaged goods, software development, finance, healthcare, and education. I serve on the board of directors of a number of non-profit, public, and privately held companies. I hold an MBA from Seattle University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Colorado.
Leads the U.S. Program's major areas of investment - Education, Economic Mobility and Opportunity, Special Initiatives, and Family Homelessness and Community Grants in Washington State.
Responsible for leading strategic implementation, advocacy, and operations for a $750 million program to catalyze the development of life-saving medical advances and to help ensure they reach the people who are disproportionately affected.
Responsible for working with the CEO to build an effective operational infrastructure - process, systems, and tools - to support a $25 billion endowment and a $1.2 billion annual payout overseeing Operations including HR, IT, Finance, Facilities, and Security for offices in the United States and India.
Responsible for corporate finance, treasury - including all debt financing, budget and performance, third-party pay or contracting and review, financial accounting and reporting, tax compliance, grants, reimbursement, and risk management for a complex organization that included a 600 bed hospital, physician network, and insurance network with $1 billion in net revenues and a $1.3 billion balance sheet.
Responsible for financial accounting and reporting, treasury, compliance, debt, and risk management for a Moody's A-rated, 393-bed academic medical center and subsidiaries with $800 million in net revenues and a $1 billion balance sheet.
Responsible for client consulting and designing accounting and investment software to address GAAP, SEC, and statutory compliance for the insurance and banking industries in a growing company that grew from $50 million to $150 million in revenues.
Financial and internal control audits. Industries of focus included financial/banking, communications, manufacturing, healthcare, and mutual funds.
