About

I first started out working in gyms while I was finishing my university degree. I landed my first personal training job in January of 2003. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to work with clients of all fitness levels and backgrounds including; young adults, fitness competitors, people with special needs, the elderly and young professionals. Owning and operating my own gym combines my love of people and my love of staying active. I play squash, basketball and football in the summer, and I snowboard and cross-country ski in the winter. Some of the best times of my life have been spent coaching amateur football. There is no greater joy than working with all kinds of athletes, young and old, and helping them achieve their goals. All of these people have proven to me that a combination of weight resistance training and cardiovascular activities, with proper diet, will help all of us live a long healthy life.

Exercise as well as health and wellness are great passions of mine. I strive to educate and promote it to my clients on a daily basis. These changes do not happen over night nor do i expect them to. Thats where i come in to help motivate and direct my clients towards their healthier lifestyle goals. I ensure that my clients exercise regularly and focus on the changes needed to achieve their goals. This can be done by scheduling client appointments a week or two in advance as well as keeping contact with them when they are not in the gym. I also give clients homework to do when on their own and have them send me their food diary daily. On the business side of things i make sure book work is done monthly and maintenance of the gym equipment is done regularly. I find the business side an ever changing challenge that i welcome with ever new obstacle. The goal at Flex Fitness is to give our clients the tools to succeed with their fitness and health goals. Whether the clients stay with us on a long-term or short-term basis, the tools myself and our trainers teach to our clients will help guide them for many years to come. Also, at Flex Fitness i encourage feedback from present and past clients as to ensure the standard of service provided continues to adapt and grow with our clients needs.

  • Personal Trainer at Advantage Conditioning
    Jan 2004 - Jan 2007 · 3 yrs 1 mo

This was my first job as a trainer. I was still finishing university and training clients between classes. I learnt a lot in the three years that i was employed as a contract worker here. As much as i knew from an exercise stand point there is a whole other side of the job that needs to be learnt through experience. Dealing with the psychology part of training clients can be very powerful. There are so many personality types that respond differently to what training approach and style you use. By getting to know your clients and listening you are able to learn what makes them respond more positively to motivational techniques used. This job helped me take the next step in my training career.
