Founded and scaled HERO Backpacks, a mission-driven consumer brand supporting girls' education globally through a give-back model in partnership with She's the First. HERO was inspired by my grandmother, who was the first woman in her family to learn to read and later became a doctor, as well as my own formative experience learning English as a child immigrating to the United States. Both gave me a firsthand appreciation for the opportunities that education can create. At the time HERO was founded, 129 million girls around the world were out of school and thereby lacked access to opportunities that can transform the trajectory of a life, a family, and a community. After all, you can't spell HERO without HER. Through building HERO, I gained firsthand experience in consumer products, manufacturing, and global supply chains. Exposure to the apparel industry's reliance on petrochemical-based materials ultimately led me to co-found Kintra Fibers. HERO earned national recognition, leading to my inclusion on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Retail & E-Commerce list in 2018. Through the company, I was invited to speak on entrepreneurship, education, and gender equity at the United Nations, Harvard University, and other global forums, and was featured by Forbes, Reuters, Entrepreneur, TODAY, and other national media outlets.
Honored on the 2018 list for HERO Backpacks, which gave back to girls' education across rural, low-income countries.
