There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, “What the hell is water?”
I started my new pre-doctoral fellowship contract with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), supported by UAB from October 2018. I am expected to finalize my Ph.D thesis by October, 2022. My PhD research areas of interest include image captioning, visual question answering and cross-modal retrieval.
The key highlight of this internship was working on the state-of-the-art on scene-text visual question answering with primary focus on the interplay between language models and visual modality.
The research stay focused on the captioning of Wikipedia articles using vision and language based principles.
Image captioning on historical archival data.
