2025 December- Continued steady progress on priorities. For two different courses in the School of Nursing, I provide administrative support (grading, proctoring exams, organizing records, reviewing forms regarding attendance, troubleshooting Canvas).
Instructing K-12 kids about mathematics, algebra, geometry, discrete mathematics, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. (I would love to have an excuse to review integrals and partial derivatives regarding differential equations and calculus!) Awesome time reviewing Integration by Parts yesterday. Excellent review of asymptotes- a value that an equation is never equal to yet the limit of the function is equal to when approaching a specific x-value.
Still learning. I ran the mark for the Javelin at a university meet recently. Feels slightly away from my longterm career goals of biogeochemistry, yet I remind myself that judging (refereed scientific journal articles) and fitness (ecology and evolutionary biology) are still on the same trajectory. Actual years are about 1993-1996 and 2022-present. Working gradually towards a Regional certification. 2023-06-04- A temporarily retired NCAA Division 2 soccer referee said to me after I was the center official on his son's soccer game, "You are the best referee I have seen in many years." Awesome! What a nice thing to hear on the last day of the regular season for 2023! 2024-06- Many more, "You are the best referee to ever officiate our game," this season!
I started house- and pet-sitting in Ithaca, New York for friends and friends of friends around 2010. A cousin worked via Rover after completing his Ph.D. in microbiology while his wife was completing a residency in OBGYN. A great way to appreciate animals, architecture, and people!
