I've run operations, secured networks, and now ship software. I’ve built and led teams at McMaster-Carr across distribution, cybersecurity, and software engineering. I love tackling tough, unclear problems in new domains and delivering results without overcomplicating things.
McMaster-Carr (mcmaster.com) is a leading industrial supplies distributor. I help full-stack software engineering teams build applications.
Moved from operations to systems security as McMaster-Carr scaled its technology infrastructure. I managed cybersecurity operations ranging from multi-year roadmaps and quarterly planning to daily security operations to ensure reslient and reliable systems. • Led security operations through organizational transformation, elevating incident response quality through structured processes, rotation schedules, and performance metrics that improved efficiency and mitigated risks more effectively. • Expanded cross-functional influence by aligning security and engineering priorities with Tech Support, Systems teams, and other departments to support broader organizational goals. Also managed team development, coached engineers at varying experience levels, and drove continuous improvement.
Led distribution operations expansion program, which included planning and execution of capital projects and large-scale distribution initiatives to support a resilient and scalable national network. • Defined and prioritized requirements for capital investments and operational improvements, aligning cross-functional teams around shared business objectives. • Collaborated with engineering, logistics, and operations to identify business needs, translating these into actionable product roadmaps. • Oversaw the end-to-end project lifecycle from discovery and design to deployment, implementation, including vendor selection, contracts, and day-to-day. Also responsible for post-launch optimization, ensuring solutions supported operational resiliency and efficiency at scale. Also helped facilitate company onboarding, managed direct reports, and coached project teams. Also supported warehouse receiving operations as interim operations manager during COVID related disruptions. Progressed from Supervisor to Manager within distribution operations.
Ascend is the world’s largest fully integrated producer of nylon 6,6 resin. I was responsible for day-to-day manufacturing and did a lot of science and math to make more useful chemicals and less waste. • Led a team of operators, technicians, and engineers in night shift operations converting over 400 I/O points of a distributed control system (DCS) from Provox to DeltaV including checking functionality, acceptance testing, and startup. • Led a cross-functional team using the six sigma DMAIC process to reduce the risk of hydrogen compressor failure and improve production of cyclohexanone by $150,000/year (Six Sigma Green Belt Project). • Developed and facilitated a plant test (DOE) to understand cyclohexanone production key process variables and maximized production capacity by implementing improved statistical process control (SPC) including rate change automation. • Optimized nitric acid ammonia combustion catalyst composition (platinum gauze) resulting in $580,000/year of increased yield and 7% increased catalyst life. • Initiated a capital project to install an improved phenol feed heater, resize a heavies reboiler, and replace oxidized catalyst (palladium supported on zeolite pellets) to improve cyclohexanone production capacity by 10% with a net benefit of over $1.5MM/year. In addition to designing plant tests, and implementing methods to improve our manufacturing processes, I worked closely with reliability and technology leaders in order to optimize the economic performance of chemical production processes by improving yield and maximizing overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). I also assisted nitric acid (Ostwald process), cyclohexanol, and cyclohexanone (selective phenol hydrogenation) chemical manufacturing operations directly by ensuring safety/environmental compliance, troubleshooting, and fulfilling daily operational duties.
Rotated between teams and time zones for a year with several back-to-back internships spanning chemical process engineering, technology R&D, and CPG supply chain operations. Learned a lot, and how to learn quickly.
