ELPIS SOLAR: A student led initiative combining technical and business model innovation for the delivery of bespoke renewable energy, solar infrastructure solutions. Emergency Aid for Refugees in Greece through solar-powered mobile charging and information stations. Achievements: -Finalist at Clinton Global Initiative (Resolution Project) at University of Berkeley, California (04/16). -Premagyan Good 100 Award for Sustainable Development, Good Festival Lausanne, Switzerland (10/16). -Finalist at University of Edinburgh's Inspire Launch Grow entrepreneurship competition (05/17). -MIT Solver finalist (Community Driven Innovation Challenge – New York 2019) for the roll-out of upgraded solar powered UV filtration and mobile phone charging units. Additional - Design and deployment of solar powered mobile phone charging stations in collaboration with the Greek solar-tech company Entec s.a. - Development of a digital platform/interface, accommodating educational, legal and other informative e-resources, e-books and PDFs, translated in 3 languages. - As appeared in more than 25 publications, articles (translated in 5 languages) blog-posts, TV live news bulletins. Net impact: • Supervised a team of 10 to design and install solar-powered mobile phone charging and information stations in 10 Greek refugee camps empowering 35,000 people per month. • Developed and implemented bespoke solar water filtration stations in Rwanda. Piloted a micro-finance mechanism contributing to local employment. Received Edinburgh University’s 2017 sustainability award Our mission is to empower refugees by charging their mobile phones and providing them with a means of accessing useful information.
