I realized that I wanted to help people at an early age, but came to the quick realization that I couldn’t do that in the same way a doctor can, because I’m terrified of blood. This was when I realized that the idea of helping people extends beyond the medical field and encompasses aspects such as policy, the environment, and socioeconomics. Recognizing that I could be part of the public health field and still connect with and help others ensured that public health was the career path for me. But I do not want to stop there. I enjoy traveling and exploring too much to feel tied down to one place, so I combined my desire to travel with public health and ultimately landed on global health, allowing me to reach not just my local community but the entire world. While I am still in the process of checking the first box on my path to a career in global health, I am currently working at Clara Maass Medical Center as a Telecommunications Supervisor. This position, combined with my past experience at DSW, has enabled me to gain experience in customer service, knowledge of hospital and sales management processing systems, and the ability to respond quickly to stressful situations. Over the past few years, I have focused on my education, as evidenced by my inclusion on the Dean’s List and my graduation with Cum Laude honors in high school. My current goals include completing my graduate degree, with a focus on global public health and health policy. Prior to entering the global health and/or health policy fields, I aim to gain experience through internships, cultivate connections through networking, and look forward to opportunities abroad. I handle callers in a professional and helpful manner. I focus on following policy and procedure to maintain confidentiality for doctors and patients. I acquired the ability to manage stressful situations in response to the emergency phone. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a 665-bed quaternary care, teaching hospital that provides comprehensive health care for the region. Staffed with more than 800 physicians, 3200 employees, and 150 volunteers, our hospital is ready to provide patients and their families with the quality care they need. During this internship focused on Newark Beth Israel Medical Center where I worked under their Chief Equity Officer and Vice President of Community Relations, Atiya Jaha-Rashidi, I was tasked with completing a semester-long project focusing on health equity and the social determinants of health looking into health outcomes. ▪Conducting research and gap analysis on public health and health equity issues such as the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), Healthcare Equity Certification, and Leapfrog’s Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes ▪Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to support the hospital’s public health and business resource group initiatives through drafting reports, organizing data, and aiding in presentation preparations ▪Participating in conducting interviews with members of the hospital’s C-Suite to gather insight into the hospital staff and community ▪Contributing to the ongoing evaluation of community health interventions and programs by assessing effectiveness and offering methods for improvement.
Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) aims to be the first place that America turns to for shoes. Focusing on making ethical business decisions and giving back to communities. Alongside store management, my goal was to work towards providing customers with the best customer experience. I worked on delegating tasks to associates in order to meet the goals of the store. I focused on merchandising and organizing all inventory-related actions to drive sales and deliverables. When needed I provided support and assigned projects/tasks to support service levels, including opening and closing the store. ▪ Ensure customers have a positive experience ▪ Review daily communication; plan and assign tasks throughout the day ▪ Maintain sales floor and stockroom to enable the flow of merchandise ▪ Supervise/participate in the planning and execution of all inventory management-related activities including freight receipt, placement, markdowns, and mismates ▪ Maintain supply inventory to ensure floor moves, markdowns, and fulfillment in areas of stockroom, cash wrap, clearance, and non-sales area ▪ Assist the Store Manager in recruiting/interviewing candidates ▪ Provide feedback to the Store Manager on associate performance and communicate associate relations issues to the Store Manager for follow-up ▪ Responsible for reconciliation of accounts receivable and accounts payable
I greeted customers in order to provide them with the best shopping experience. I Provided customer service and aided customers in finding their desired shoes. I was responsible for assisting the head coach and trainers in the oversight of the nightly functions of the team. I was involved with the development and set up of drills for the team and goalies specifically. I worked with players and families to determine the best time for practice. I focused on communication with players and the head coach on how to overcome adversity.
