Built out functionality for and maintained a campus wide Energy Information System that centralized 800+ data points for energy, water, and waste. Tracking these key sustainability performance indicators increased transparency, accelerated regulatory reporting, and enhanced energy savings for the University. Managed the GHG inventory across the full value chain for the University as well as all related communications, publications, and public-facing reporting (Second Nature, US EPA, and CA EPA). Informed campus climate strategy by managing 30+ projects and all project vendors in support of the University’s Climate Action Plan. Developed and recommended new project specific KPIs to best prioritize projects, timelines and budget. Ensured the operation of University energy and utility production facilities (Cogen Plant) complied with all applicable internal and external regulatory requirements including but not limited to EIA, EPA, California Air Resource Board (ARB), California Energy Commission (CEC), CalRecycle, and Second Nature. Cultivated cross-functional relationships beyond the Facilities Services department to further University sustainability initiatives. Relationships enabled the addition of the following programs - environmental justice, green laboratories, campus transportation strategy, and green office certification. Provided direct project oversight and mentorship to nine sustainability student interns, throughout the lifecycle of their programs, helping them develop meaningful contributions to the University. Published the 1st annual Sustainability Progress Report to showcase SDSU’s successes to the community. Delivered weekly trainings to critical personnel maintaining the operation of campus buildings helping them to record data for monitoring the campus’ energy production and to effectively interpret the data trends.
Directly managed and performed all phases of the commissioning process, including maintaining scope, schedule and budget, for 14 projects simultaneously. Supported a client’s commitment to health and sustainability by optimizing the performance of their WELL Gold and LEED Platinum office featuring a bespoke design allowing for passive natural ventilation, mixed mode, or mechanical conditioning utilizing chilled sails and beams, radiant heating, VAV's, and a ventilated façade. Validated the energy dashboard accuracy at an OSHPD 3 medical facility, displaying the facility’s electrical, natural gas, water consumption, and generation from onsite photovoltaics. Reviewed trend data to identify anomalies in system functionality and provided solutions to the client’s operation engineers. Commissioned the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and pharmacy for Rady Children’s Hospital Acute Care Pavilion, delivering a redundant system through close coordination that avoided added time and air quality and noise issues. Led all business development efforts in the San Diego region, which led to providing energy efficient controls and design recommendations for General Atomics’ ice plant and HVAC upgrades.
Expanded the DOE’s Zero Energy Ready Homes (ZERH) Program by directly engaging with utilities, developers, builders, raters, and state regulatory agencies (e.g. CPUC, CEC) across the country to develop new program partners through education and to technically advise on program requirements.
