Sabaidee! I am an Asian-American (Laotian) student at UCSD (General Biology). As a proud San Diegan, I pride myself with the ethnic mosaic that surrounds me. I hope that my future studies within the medical field will help benefit my community as a whole, and continue to inspire those around me. During my freshman year of highschool I’ve participated in a stem related club: MESA. During my time within this club I’ve had the opportunity to engineer a prosthetic arm with my teammates: Ameera Ali and Alana Sayarath. The competition highlighted the manufacturing of a prosthetic arm that was capable of stacking the most amount of cups in s limited amount of time. Our team won 1st place over all and most innovative award within a MESA day competition. (2019) I have interned at UCSD during my Freshman year (Summer), and participated in a microbiology program offered at the university. I have gained skills in regard to basic lab techniques, microscope handling, the ability to read data and create scientific posters. (2019) I’ve tutored students within my community (6th-12th) in various subjects including IM3 and AVID. I continue to offer outreach and support for those in my community by providing aid afterschool. (2019 - Ongoing) I have also completed a brief summer internship at Sanford Burnham Prebys under the CIRMs Spark Program. I had specifically specialized in tumor imitation and maintenance in regard to breast cancer. I have worked under the Haricharan lab shadowing Aloran Mazumder. During my time at SPB, I’ve gained many skills including Microsoft excel, general lab skills and data analysis. I have won a speech award in the most recent CIRM Sparks Summer Internship symposium.
