Alexandria City High School (ACHS) is a comprehensive, interconnected high school with four campuses located in Alexandria, VA. It is the largest high school in the Commonwealth of Virginia and maintains a student enrollment of approximately 4,700 students and 500 staff members. • Managed the largest operating budget in ACPS, i.e. $150 million, annually. Made programmatic, operational, and staffing decisions based on budgetary allocations and as they aligned with division priorities. • Set school-wide improvement goals in support of high expectations for instruction and student achievement, i.e. for cohort 2024, ACHS achieved the highest graduation rate in 10 years (87%) and one of 49 schools to receive the 2024-2025 Board of Education Continuous Improvement Award. • Supervised a staff of over 500 professionals: three campus principals, 21 administrators, i.e. deans and academy principals; 400 instructional staff; and 50 support/casual employees. Managed staff issues and conducted investigations to make recommendations to Human Resources and the superintendent’s cabinet. • Chaired the School Improvement Plan (SIP) committee and worked with the Office of Accountability and School Improvement on the VDOE, Academic Review process. Supervised the implementation of the CSIP and monitored action steps.
• Created and designed challenging curriculum that adhered to state mandates as well as captured student interest. • Established working relationships with community stakeholders, including the state Departments of Education, to offer furthered mentoring and educational opportunities for students. These stakeholders hosted field trips for the students and opportunities for their college admission and work force involvement. • Served as a mentor for two different educators, offering them guidance and development in the creation of their own teaching methodology as it aligned with current state and national curriculum standards. • Developed curriculum support instructional materials pertaining to the school district and its programs. Prepared a variety of written materials including teacher guides and outlines for public use and special correspondence that informed the audience on school data and performance. • Coordinated educational program efforts: mentoring program(s), after school activities, and tutoring sessions that addressed the demanding social, economic, and cultural needs of the school community.
