Investigating the disease etiology and potential immunomodulatory therapies for the treatment of monogenic or complex genetic retinal diseases (e.g. Retinitis Pigmentosa, Age-related macular degeneration).
The main goals of my PhD research were the identification and characterization of novel microglial reactivity markers in the retina and the design of therapeutic strategies to reduce neuroinflammation and retinal degeneration. Further, i was interested in the function of photoreceptor gene-regulatory networks with the aim of identifying/characterizing novel retinal disease genes.
High throughput gene synthesis. As a part of the molecular cloning team, I carried out inoculation and plasmid preparation for subcloning/sequencing according to the customers' wishes.
