Leading research into monogastric nutrition and health, collaborating globally with multi-disciplinary groups of scientists to design and develop new product pipelines, and serving as the link between R&D, Marketing, Technology and the Business teams.
Providing technical expertise to sales teams across NW Europe on monogastric and feed milling portfolios, through continuous technical and commercial communication with premix houses, feed compounders, integrators, consultants and specialist veterinary practices. Translation of commercial and research data into technical and marketing collateral, including technical literature, sales and marketing presentations, scientific papers and abstracts, and testimonial videos.
Primary responsibilities included research planning, in vivo and in vitro trial execution and dissemination, trial and budget management, and regular contact with cross-functional teams, contract research organizations, regulators and industry customers. At Danisco, my focus was mainly on gut health solutions in poultry, though I also supported phytase, carbohydrase and early stage projects. Further skills included knowledge of statistical methodology (including modelling biological systems, factor and principal components analysis, design of experiments, data visualization and meta-analysis) and programs, including JMP, SAS, R and Minitab; feed formulation for pigs and poultry; and preparation of product efficacy dossiers for registration in EU and Asian markets (6 products across 4 markets).
My doctoral research topic was "Silvopastoral pig and tannin-containing feeds: impacts on growth and meat quality", and my supervisors were Prof Irene Mueller-Harvey, Dr Jennie Litten-Brown and Prof Ian Givens. Modules taught: Introduction to Animal Science in Practice, Applied Animal Nutrition, Practical Animal Nutrition, Dogs and Cats; assisted with exam and dissertation supervision/marking. Also acted as a departmental ASK Study Skills Advisor, employed by the central University Study Skills Centre. This involved advising undergrad and Masters students on essay writing, statistical analysis and dissertation questions.
