Through work experience at leading insurance firms, I gained insight into the vital roles brokers and underwriters play in managing risk, building client relationships, and driving innovative insurance solutions. These experiences deepened my interest for the industry, and I’m now eager to explore further opportunities within the insurance industry.
During my time at Gallagher Re, I had the opportunity to connect with numerous insurance professionals and gain a broad understanding of the various functions within the reinsurance industry. A highlight of my experience was receiving an insightful tour of Lloyd’s of London, which deepened my appreciation for the history and operations of one of the world’s most iconic insurance markets.
Had the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and learn more about how the London and global insurance markets operate. It was a great experience that gave me real insight into the sector and helped build my understanding of the industry on an international level.
Recently had the opportunity to visit Beazley’s Bishopsgate office, where I met with both insurance and reinsurance underwriters. It was a valuable experience that gave me insight into different areas of underwriting, and I really appreciated the chance to learn from experienced professionals and hear their career advice. A great opportunity to deepen my understanding of the insurance and reinsurance market.
Spent some time with Marsh’s Species Claims team, focusing on high-value insurance for fine art, jewellery, and cash-in-transit. Observed negotiations between brokers and underwriters on a major deal, gaining insight into how terms are structured and how both sides work together to manage complex risks. Also visited Lloyd’s of London to sit in on further discussions, offering a broader view of the underwriting process. In the afternoon, worked with the claims advocacy team and spoke with professionals from varied backgrounds, including law. Saw a demonstration of an internal platform designed to improve claims transparency and client service. Wrapped up with a valuable conversation with a recent apprentice, who shared advice on standing out through personality, networking, and communication.
At Marsh, I worked in the FINPRO team, gaining hands-on experience in broking and client advisory across financial lines. I attended meetings with major insurers and learned how tailored insurance solutions are built around client needs, especially in the evolving Lloyd’s market. I developed a strong understanding of the insurance industry’s role within the wider financial world, and how global events and market cycles shape it. The experience also sharpened my client-facing skills and gave me insight into career paths across insurance, investment banking, and consulting. It confirmed my interest in roles that combine analytical thinking with strong relationship-building.
