I build direct-to-consumer businesses for iconic IP. For the last two-plus years I've owned the subscription, ecommerce, and advertising P&L at Comics Kingdom, the direct-to-consumer platform for King Features, a Hearst unit and one of the oldest comics syndicates in the world. The platform publishes strips read by millions of people across a hundred-plus titles, including Popeye, Blondie, Hägar, Zits, and Bizarro. The work is unusual for a DTC role because the product is legacy IP, the audience is multi-generational, and the business runs on three different revenue pillars (subscription, advertising, ecommerce) that all have different levers. I spend most of my time figuring out which lever to pull next, and then building the thing that pulls it. A few representative outcomes from the last two years: - Ecommerce revenue is up roughly 3x, with 2026 pacing to double again, driven by cleaner product pipeline and automation I built in-house. - Subscription revenue grew close to 40% in the clean measurement era post-relaunch, despite structural declines in legacy pageview traffic. - Built George, an AI-assisted commerce agent that handles catalog review, pricing analysis, and product ideation for our 2,100+ product Printify/Shopify store. - Shipped a full analytics rebuild, churn modeling, and lifecycle email infrastructure that replaced several vendor dependencies. Before King Features I spent 11 years at Barnes & Noble, most recently as Senior Analyst/Strategist on the social media team. That's where I learned how retail-scale audiences actually behave, and how much of growth work is operational rigor rather than creative inspiration. I'm most interested in roles that sit at the intersection of IP, digital product, and creative technology. Gaming, publishing, and creator-tools companies building for audiences that already care about the thing they make. Based in Northern New Jersey. Always happy to talk to people doing interesting work in comics, games, or subscription media.
