Alex Emery is Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Ka’apuni Capital, a private investment and advisory platform focused on long-term investing across private markets. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Alex has invested across Asia, Europe and North America, working with entrepreneurs, management teams and investors to build and transform businesses. Most recently, Alex served as President of Eight Roads Ventures, the global venture capital firm backed by Fidelity Investments. He led the firm’s investment activities across Europe, India, China and Japan, overseeing a global team investing in technology and healthcare companies and managing more than US$11 billion of assets. Prior to Eight Roads, Alex spent 22 years at Permira, where he was Head of Asia Pacific and a member of the firm’s Global Executive Committee. After joining Permira in London in 2002, he helped establish the firm’s Asian presence with the opening of its Tokyo office in 2005. During his tenure, he led and participated in investments including Food & Life Companies (Sushiro), Arysta LifeScience, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Grobest, Tricor, I-MED Radiology and Topcast. Earlier in his career, Alex spent five years with McKinsey & Company in London and began his professional life at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Alex serves on the Advisory Board of the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs and the Global Advisory Board of the Kellogg School of Management. He is also a regular guest lecturer in Professor Jose Liberti’s Private Equity course at Kellogg. A French national, Alex has lived in Asia for more than 30 years and is fluent in Japanese.
