I am a biochemistry major at the University of North Texas with plans to become a pharmacist. I am currently looking for medical (preferably pharmacy) clinical experience and working towards getting my Pharmacy Technician certification done. I started high school with an interest in the medical field. When they offered a career pathway involving clinicals and medicine, I knew I wanted to take the course and learn more about the medical field. Throughout the course, I took Patient care technician and Pharmacy technician courses to expand my horizons. For PCT, I roamed the halls and helped the elderly at a local nursing home. I followed the nurses’ directions and assisted many people and got to know them. However, I slowly realized that being a primary caregiver was not my interest. I made a connection during pharmacy technician class. As I dove through dozens of books involving different medication classes and the role pharmacists play in patient caregiving, I knew I wanted to become one. The long hours spent classifying drug classes and learning schedules took me towards the path I want to take today. I hope to gain more experience and learn more about the career of a pharmacist as I navigate through being a pre-pharmacy student.
