I’m Alena Tran, an Information Science student at UNC Chapel Hill with a passion for turning data into insights and designing user-friendly digital experiences. I’ve built dashboards, cleaned datasets, and created visuals and toolkits for organizations like NC Asian Americans Together and NC State University, learning how thoughtful design and accurate data make a real impact. I love combining creativity and problem-solving to make technology simple, intuitive, and enjoyable for people.
• Developed and improved dashboards in Power BI, also contributing to UI/UX design and data visualization. • Cleaned databases and quality-checked documents to ensure accurate, reliable, and usable data for analysis and reporting.
• Researched needs for student organizations and designed a program toolkit with layout, graphics, and resource materials with Adobe Illustrator. • Created social media content and designed flyers, event schedule, T-shirts, and stickers for a 100+ participant conference, promoting engagement.
• Assembled, configured, and tested demo kits for hospital systems, including nurse call systems, phones, asset tags, locating devices, and beds. • Assisted with installation of networked hospital systems, virtual walls, mobile device management, and medical device integration. • Updated asset databases, troubleshot hardware and connectivity issues, and coordinated with R&D teams.
• Created content following NC State brand guidelines, ensuring consistency across channels. • Produced posters and various formats of social media posts using Adobe Creative Cloud to support campaigns.
Wrote for NCAAT’s blog, conducted social media takeovers, and designed social media posts. Hosted and volunteered during NCAAT registration drives, civic engagement, and workshops. Developed leadership skills among a group of like-minded peers committed to social justice and advocacy.
