I have had a bounty of professional experiences in which I have been teaching—and preparing other teachers to instruct—every type of learner in K-12 settings, from the very accomplished to struggling learners. As a high school teacher and advisor to a group of newcomers, it was my responsibility to promote an atmosphere of risk-taking, lots of peer support, and a passion to succeed and excel. We also succeeded in developing a healthy, supportive attitude and the inclusion of ELs into mainstream school functions. As an instructional coach for Action Learning Systems, for Achieve! Academic Success and, currently, as an Educational Program Consultant for the District Innovation and Accountability division of the California Department of Education, all the work I do is imbued with the conviction that all students are able to make academic advances, given the right opportunities and a genuine conviction from their teachers and school systems that they can and will succeed.
• Provide technical assistance to redesign, develop, implement, and refine an up-to-date, research-based improvement and accountability system for districts and schools to improve student achievement • In collaboration with others, guide county and district offices and other technical assistance providers in the provision of technical assistance efforts for low-performing districts and schools
• Provide consultation to districts and schools on reform initiatives and the implementation of various curricula • Conduct demonstration lessons focused on proven instructional techniques that increase engagement, accountability, content mastery, and skills development
• Teacher Credentialing Program • Develop and deliver curricula on advanced lesson planning, data analysis, differentiated instruction, and serving he needs of English language learners
• Provided professional development and consultation to districts and schools on reform initiatives and he implementation of various curricula • Coordinated and supervised curriculum development teams, including for a CTEL course • Trained, and supported Action Learning Systems Instructional Coaches in implementing a sizeable cross-age tutoring program in Stockton, CA and Washington, D.C. • Served as a member of several School Assistance and Intervention Teams, evaluating the policies, instructional and administrative practices a elementary-secondary school sites
