Six and a half years of experience at Uría Menéndez Abogados (Spain). I am currently on secondment at Allen & Gledhill (Singapore). My practice focuses in commercial arbitration, civil litigation, international litigation, investment arbitration, and dispute resolution (mediation, expert determination, dispute boards, etc.). I am an registered mediator in Spain. My experience includes working for Spanish and foreign firms, as well as sovereign States, in complex contentious matters related to oil & gas, construction, engineering, transport, commodities and renewable energies. My most relevant cases at Uría includes, inter alia: 1) Representing an East-Asian State in multiple judicial proceedings in Spain, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands arising from an 1878 agreement related to the cession of territories and sovereign rights in the north of Borneo, under which an ad hoc arbitration was initiated (in Madrid) for USD 32.2 billion. 2) Representing a Spanish company in an ad hoc arbitration against an Iranian SOE. 3) Representing a Spanish company in a judicial dispute worth more USD 19 million regarding a supply contract in Mexico. 4) Representing a Spanish company in a CIMA arbitration regarding a dispute over an anti-embarrassment clause, as well as in the subsequent annulment and enforcement proceedings of the award. 5) Representing a Latin-American State in enforcement proceedings in Spain related to commercial/investment awards. 6) Representing a Peruvian company in foreign award recognition/enforcement proceedings before the Spanish courts. 7) Representing a Spanish company in MIAC mediation proceedings in relation with a dispute derived of an ICC award. 8) Advising a Spanish company in the renegotiation of its sovereign debt with an African state. 9) Representing an American company in an ICC arbitration in relation with several agreements regarding Europe's plastic polymer markets. 10) Representing a Spanish company in an ICC arbitration against an Algerian SOE. 11) Representing a Saudi company in recognition proceedings in Spain of an ICC award. I have won the second edition of the ELSA Spain Moot Court Competition (ESMCC) (which dealt with maritime law) in 2019 and the XV Moot Madrid prize for the Best Arbitral Award in 2023. I have also recently coached the team of the Universidad CEU San Pablo at the 32nd edition of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. I usually act as a university teacher in the fields of my expertise. I am proficient in English, fluent in French, and have some knowledge of German.
