Cambridge Med Student interested in Surgery
Summer internship funded by the society for vascular surgery (US) working within the Vascular Surgery team at VA Boston West Roxbury. Led projects in the viability of renal salvage operations to address renal artery occlusion, and the association of operative duration with adverse outcomes in infrainguinal revascularisation procedures. Projects required large scale data tidying, analysis, and visualisation from national surgical quality improvement dataset. Both projects written into complete manuscripts and submitted for journal review.
Researcher in the Murray Group in the Department of Genetics, Evolution, and Environment at UCL. Work focussed on the spatiotemporal dynamics of blaZ spread in CC398 S. aureus. Project was purely computational, utilising a range of phylogenetic tools (BEAST, IQ-TREE, etc.) to identify and date the introduction of MGEs that carry blaZ in CC398, project elucidated a link between blaZ carriage and methicillin resistance in this clade of S. aureus. Initially began as a project student for final year dissertation (received a first class mark), with work continuing past submission, for presentation as first author at the Microbiology Society Conference 2024.
12 week internship working in the Bhattacharyya lab on estimating plasmid loss rates and fitness costs of carbapenemase carriage in lab and clinical strains of enterobacterales. Project required development of wet lab and bioinformatic skills including interpretation of sequencing data and modelling bacterial growth curves at scale.
Ice cream server at local ice cream store, entrusted with opening and closing store alone.
Research assistantship at ISEH working on data analysis on a project exploring the connection between exercise type and intensity. Named author on project presentation at BASEM annual conference 2022.
