I am a small 1-person pool company called A. J. Contract Services, Inc. Our company does the usual fare of equipment repairs and upgrades for the large commercial pool market, but have evolved to specialize into taking water quality to the next level. Through the cutting edge use of Chemical Controllers, HCF Liquid Chlorine Feed Systems, CO2, specialty flocculants, enzymes, & water testing... we have the tools to confront many water quality issues head-on by working smarter, not harder. My goal is to give back to the industry, and share what I have learned or am concerned about. In this age of DBP awareness, it's time for this industry of ours to open up and share ideas. I don't pretend to be a scientist, or an expert in water chemistry. All I am doing is searching for reasons that makes sense. To coin what perhaps is fast becoming an old cliche, 'Perhaps this is the time for change', and for us to look at objectively what is considered as "standard practice". New research, new methodologies, new ways of thinking, are all proving that some standard practice standbys may not be our best alternative after-all. My stance on any product or new technology has always been based on objectivity and what makes common sense. It is just too easy for some companies to put out false claims, and back them up with pseudo-science exaggerations that sound good at first, but have little credibility in; objectivity, science, basic chemistry, or current research. Not to say that not every company knows why it works, or can even afford to do a study, but over the top claims need to be scrutinized. I'm always learning and trying to improve my understanding of water issues and equipment. I am frequently told by many manufacturers that I have a tendency to ask questions that nobody has ever asked before. That's ok, as it has to start somewhere. The result is that I frequently delve into areas that many consider to be cutting edge, and wonder about the finer details of the what if's.
